Great to have a run out in our Carreg Motorsport Clio yesterday at Llandow Sprint. Whilst being beaten by my son by one tenth of a second was tough, we both had a great day and beat the Welsh class record convincingly!
Back to earth now and working on plans to move to a new workshop !

The Clio Cup Hillclimb car is still a challenge! The ECU went back to DTAFast for a repair (turned around and back immediately) and on stripping things down I found this split coil pack. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation - did a defective coil pack cause the ignition driver failure or the other way around?

That's not important now - the car is due to be on the rolling road on Thursday and competing on Saturday! The ECU is triggering as it should, on the bench and in the car and I have a new, OEM coil-pack to collect in the morning. So, everything should be good to go tomorrow.

Today's small challenge. Just swapping a circuit breaker (eye watering cost). All very nicely put together but ever so tight in there.

I have never been a fan of these dashes and this thing is fighting me on every step! They are the least intuitive dash from a setup perspective and the manual is a nightmare!

Sweet Lamb for testing! Cold and bleak but the sound of rally cars makes up for that!

One small repair and some tweaks in the ECU but nothing major!

This club spec relay / fuse harness is almost finished (needs a couple of connectors, wrapping and testing) and then will be ready for fitting to a lovely Hillclimb / Sprint Clio. I'm not sure about the 2.8mm multipin connector for the dash but that's what it came with! It'll be OK for testing but maybe I'll swap in a Deutsch DTM for that.

Work on a Sunday morning. I can think of worse cars to be working on though!

I have this and an another car to finish wiring today, then it's on to the next job - ECU swap on a very nice hillclimb and sprint Clio. (Another DTAFast ECU)

Back working on this this afternoon. Just finishing off the new chassis harness. There's a little bit of snagging (stalks for dip and main beam ground the relays but I've got them setup for a positive trigger - easy enough fix). Indicators are super fast as they are all LED and the flasher unit is old school. I'll either change the flasher unit or pop some resistors in somewhere.

Tough challenge! Grafting in a new #dtafast ECU into an existing harness. The spec and quality of the harness is high end but it's quite old and undocumented. So, with only two colours this is a high end challenge!!

It might look chaotic but it all works :-)

I've just bench tested the DTAFast T12 ECU with bespoke engine and chassis harnesses. Everything was spot on although I did have a small wobble with the fan relay not turning off - then I realised that without a coolant sensor in place, the ECU assumes a high engine temperature (above the threshold for the fan). A little bit of juggling in the software and all was good.

Next job is to fit this to the car and build the gearbox and paddle shift wiring.

I have to say this @DTA ECU is rammed with features. And being so complex, it's a lot easier to configure it on the bench, not while sat in a (cold) workshop!

The configuration should be finished tonight then it'll be plugged into the new wiring harness and all bench tested before installation on the car and first start up.

Time to put the tools down for today! New relay panel for a forest rally car. The Deutsch connectors plug into the existing dash panel and new ECU (DTA T12+).
The relays are:
Fuel pump
Coils and Injectors
Ignition/ECU
Fan
Compressor (air shifter).

And, yes, I know one relay is different :-)

The next challenge (whilst waiting for parts to finish the current job).

ECU swap in a forest rally car. It's going from MBE967E to a DTA T12+ with paddle shift . It could do with a full rewire but time is tight so the ECU is going to have to plug into the existing wiring which is a touch complex!!

New stock of 'battery' terminals from my favourite supplier of these (I find they fit the crimping tool well). The price is a bit eye watering though 🤦‍♀️

I am going in circles here counting teeth :-)

I'm in the process of setting up the timing on this Mazda NB turbo car on a Motorsport Electronics ME360 ECU. This is supposed to be plug and play but the custom crank sensor setup doesn't want to play!

The setup is pretty simple although space is tight! The MEITU software is really good (with a comprehensive help section!).

Unfortunately, my 'trusty' old timing light has decided it doesn't want to work so I'll have to wait for a new one in the post before I can get this running.

Interesting end to the year - I've been asked to quote for wiring a MEV Rocket - it's an exoskeletal kit car, fitted with a Duratec V6.

Possible ECUs are Emerald K6 (although by the time you've added an external wideband controller and bits the price does rise and there's no knock measurement) or my current go to, a Motorsport Electronics ME360 https://motorsport-electronics.co.uk/product-category/wire-in-ecus/me360-wire-in-ecus/

Dash options are numerous (needs to be road legal) but my recommendation is for a Race Technology Dash 2 https://race-technology.com/gb/racing/displays/dash2

Switchgear and wiring has to be IVA compliant so quite a challenge.

Boxing Day ECU setup on a client's Mazda powered kit car.
The Motorsport Electronics software is very good and I'm liking the ability to test outputs from the laptop.

Once it's all setup, it will be startup time - probably next week though as I want Motorsport Electronics to 'dial in' just to check settings are all ok. This is a 'plug and play' setup specifically for this engine so should be spot on (although it certainly didn't 'plug'!

I've got a few of these budget LED front 'spot' light kits in stock.
I've got one on our van and, whilst the lighting isn't very directional, there is a lot of light! Great for main beam!

So, if you fancy some upgraded lighting, let me know. These are great on vans, pickups etc and also OK on road cars!
